Discover Skeletal Problems

Three common ways that people develop back problems are from: heredity, daily living, and injury.
From the time we are born, chiropractors are there for our back problems. Heredity plays the main role in who we are and how we are, so, unfortunately, we are born the way we are born. Fortunately, even as new babies, we can be examined by a chiropractor who can detect if anything is 'wrong' regarding our skeletal make up including bones and muscles. If something is 'out of place,' a chiropractor can use manipulation to correct it. I know this as my mother was in a car accident when she was pregnant with me, and her chiropractor offered this service on me once I was born. However, everything was all right. A chiropractor may also discover skeletal problems when a person is older. My friend was diagnosed with scoliosis when she was in her late teens. She was, consequently, referred to a back orthopaedic specialist for further and more in depth examination. This, too, was a result of heredity. A chiropractor can aid with these types of back problems.

Daily living may be the most common reason why people develop back problems. Some general concerns often come from poor posture during the day or night, incorrect ways of holding or moving objects, and working on or at areas that have not been adapted for an individual's body. More specifically, a chiropractor can treat hip discomfort, but he or she can suggest to his or her patient that, for example, sleeping on one side with a pillow between the knees would help as well. A chiropractor can address shoulder pain, but he can recommend that the female patient start using a hand bag rather than wear one with a shoulder strap. A chiropractor can evaluate neck ache, but he can also point out that the chair at the patient's work station is not conducive to the height of the computer screen. A chiropractor is able to help with these problems stemming from the back.

Injury to a person's body is another way by which a chiropractor can assist. If we are lucky, we will never become injured. Sadly, the chances of that are very slim. Many people either get hurt by their own doing or because of someone else. Even when we are trying to stay healthy, we may distress ourselves when simply warming up to play a sport. We may get hurt while sharing the work load on a job site. We may become injured from a car accident. A chiropractor can tend to the resulting back problems.

Three ways that I can ensure that I do not experience chronic back pain in the future are through: exercise, massage, and lifestyle. Keeping your body fit is a life long habit which we should all do. However, even in today's society that promotes being healthy, many people do not take the time or put in the effort until they are injured. Then, all too often, we need to take that time to see a professional such as a chiropractor who will recommend to, and demonstrate for us the exercises which he feels will best make us better. When we do not place ourselves at the top of the list, a chiropractor can help us get 'back' there.

Massage is another way by which a chiropractor can use his skills to alleviate chronic back pain. There is nothing better than having someone pamper you at a spa with a relaxing massage, especially when you are healthy. However, having this therapy through a chiropractor's office so that your back is correctly massaged becomes beneficial to your whole body, not just your back. Again, what a wonderful way to have a professional treat you.

Being careful with your lifestyle can allow you to refrain from having back problems. When you know what you are putting into your body, and choose to fuel and hydrate it with nutritious foods, your body will work more efficiently. If you choose to not smoke, not to do drugs, and limit your alcohol consumption, your body will be more healthy. When you are able to have enough rest and sleep each night, your body will respond more favourably the next day. If you work and play well, your body will adapt accordingly, and your back should stay strong. Ways for ridding one's self of chronic back pain in the future can be addressed through a chiropractor.

Three methods that chiropractors use when treating back pain are by: Relief Care, Corrective/Restorative Care, and Wellness Care. Relief Care is when a part of your body starts hurting from some sort of problem and the chiropractor works carefully to lessen the pain. Treatment methods for this may take several visits to a chiropractor, but just because the pain goes away, it does not necessarily mean that the problem has gone away, too. A chiropractor will know what to do and for how long before the next phase of treatment is needed.

Once the diagnosis of, and the treatment for the problem has been established, a chiropractor will use the method of Corrective/Restorative Care. This second phase is when the patient continues to receive treatment for the original pain even though he may be feeling much better. Visits to the chiropractor are fewer, but both he and the patient work together to determine how often this care needs to happen so that the problem does not flare up again.

The third phase for treating back pain is through Wellness Care. Routine visits to a chiropractor for care are scheduled so that your body continues to work efficiently with no pain and, optimally, you feel the best that you can. The chiropractor can also advise you on other ways that may help you be back pain free, including exercise, massage, and lifestyle, bringing the chiropractor and you full circle for continual care of your back!
