A back problem at some time in our lives

In today’s society, we constantly face issues that cause harm to the well-being of individuals. A common side effect of average daily living threatens the health of our back. From sitting all-day at computer desks to playing sports, we are at persistent risk for developing long-term health affects. Back problems are too common and according to American Chiropractic Association, “experts estimate that as many as 80% of the population will experience a back problem at some time in our lives.” This ration is only proportional to the fact people are not aware of the trouble they are getting into while not treating the problem at initial onset. To ensure that we do not experience chronic back pain in our lifetime, education on prevention and the short-term as well as long-term effects of back problems is key. By refining the steps and procedures that come with a chronic back issue, the average person can avoid the chaos. Without the help of Chiropractors and the methods they use to treating back pains, individuals risk living in daily pain.

The three (3) most common reasons for developing back pain are: sports-related injuries, career-related habits and medical issues. As a soccer player and distance runner, I have experienced back problems. Lower back pain caused by a jolt to the back or fall, athletes are prone to injures. John Gallucci, President at JAG Physical Therapy, declares common injures include stress fractures, muscle spasms and disc herniation. I can say from past experience… stress factures are not fun. Because of constant lateral movements and contortions, athletes are constantly moving at odd angles. It is this movement that causes an overuse of certain muscles resulting in chronic lower back pain. Sports are all fun and games until the back goes out. Back issues are not only common on the field, but also in the work industry. Having a desk job where one is constantly sitting or slouching, the back can become very tense - meaning one wrong move and an individual is hurt. The simplest task like picking up apiece of paper can pull the wrong muscle. Lifting heavy objects or pushing items while twisting your spine can aggravate the spine resulting in chronic back problems. Sometimes we try our best to avoid chronic back pain, but it even occurs to the best. Being obese, having cancer or simply having bad posture can aggravate the back. The back receives much stress from other health issues resulting in pain.
