Another deterrence to back pains is to train yourself to keep your core muscles engaged. An easy way to do that is to pull your navel toward your spine and visualize wearing a corset that pulls the sides of your abs inward. Doing so throughout the day, especially when lifting or bending, strengthens and supports your back.

It is a given that we are going to sit. The good news is, there are methods to lessen its impact on our back.  Getting up and moving at least once every 20 minutes is a good way to nourish our discs and promote healthy blood flow.  Set your screen saver to remind you; make a habit of going for a drink of water; when you answer the phone, stand up to stretch and change positions.

When sitting or even standing, keep your reading material at eye level. Do not lean over a desk or table when working. Spines should always be kept straight whenever possible.

While these are some practices we can carry out in our own time to prevent or alleviate back pains, chiropractors who treat patients have their advanced methods for treatment.

One method which is commonly used is referred to as the spinal manipulation. Chiropractor may use forceful pressure on vital parts of your back or other parts of your body to realign your spine and manage pain. This pressure may be abrupt, and may be delivered by hands to apply a controlled sudden force to a joint while the body is positioned in a specific way. Sometimes, a specially designed instrument is used to place pressure on the patient’s body.  Massages may also be incorporated into your treatment.

Chiropractors also use a diagnostic and treatment system called the Activator Method Chiropractic Technique to treat many types of back pain, neck pain, and headaches (both chronic and migraine). This method uses a small, hand-held instrument called the Activator Adjusting Instrument to deliver a mellow impulse force to the spine with the objective of reviving motion to the targeted spinal vertebra or joint.   According to the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, more than half of full-time American chiropractors report using the Activator Method in their practices.  It is a flipside to the traditional, manual method of spinal manipulation.

The Graston Technique is a form of manual therapy known as soft-tissue instrument-assisted mobilization. It uses instruments with a specialized form of massage. The therapy is designed to help the chiropractor determinate areas of restriction in a pursuit to break up scar tissue. Decreasing overall treatment time and resolving chronic conditions thought to be permanent are just one of the few benefits of the Graston Technique.

The realization of how important our backs are to us is just the beginning to taking good care of them. The difference only occurs when we actually change our certain lifestyle habits and this can be in the most casual of forms. Just changing the way we sit or stand can make all the difference to a person. Nobody wants to go the doctor just because they didn’t take care of their backs. It’s a shameful waste of money and time that could have been avoided if they had just been a little cautious. Kill back pains before they kill you.
